DLSNC Student Testifies at Multnomah County Board Hearing Regarding Black History Month


“With a special focus on the historic contributions of African-American churches and newspapers, Multnomah County’s Board of Commissioners unanimously adopted a proclamation Thursday to mark February throughout the county as Black History Month,” at their Board hearing on Feb. 21st. 1300 Pounds of Fresh Vegetables & 450 Vegetable Plant Starts: Coming to De La Salle North!


That’s right – De La Salle North has been chosen as the ONLY stop in Portland, Oregon for the Burpee Food Truck on its 23-city nationwide trek to deliver vegetables, plant starts and KNOWLEDGE in urban centers and food deserts. Join us on April 15th when the food truck delivers nutrition and education in our very own parking lot!

According to Burpee, “The ‘Grow Anywhere Tour’ focuses on inspiring new generations of urban gardeners to grow their own vegetables on their balcony, back patio, or as part of a neighborhood or community garden. Burpee Home Gardens experts will be available at each tour stop to provide gardening advice, information and educational materials. They will focus on helping communities learn the basics of gardening.”

DLS Teacher Chosen as an Idea Lab Fellow for Summer 2013

Wendy Herrin, an English teacher here at De La Salle, has been chosen, in a competitive selection process, as an Idea Lab Institute Teaching Fellow for the summer. Idea Lab is “a summer program where Oregon teens and teachers use the humanities to explore the pursuit of happiness and how it shapes our culture.” Congratulations, Ms. Herrin! Read more here.

DLSNC Constitution Team Wins Performance Awards at District “We The People” Competition

Teachers Edward Zupcic and Kevin Clark took 28 students to Lake Oswego High School for to the We The People District Competition. De La Salle won two awards for Outstanding Performance. One of the judges was U.S. Representative Suzanne Bonamici, who was impressed with the poise and character our students exhibited. All of our students did an excellent job and are ready for the next step, which is to compete at the State level for a chance to go to Washington D.C. Congratulations to our team, coaches and everyone involved!
