Senior Lorena Hernandez Named Gates Millennium Scholar

Senior Lorena Hernandez: Gates Millennium Scholar!
Senior Lorena Hernandez, Class of 2012, just learned that she has been named a Gates Millennium ScholarOnly 1,000 students from across the country receive this prestigious award each year, which covers all financial costs associated with education, all the way through to graduation (even including graduate school in certain academic fields) at the school of choice for the recipient. Leadership programs and development in both personal and professional areas are also provided, along with academic support. It is an amazing and well-deserved achievement for Lorena and an honor for De La Salle North, as well. Lorena is the second De La Salle North student to be selected as a Gates Millennium Scholar, even though the school was only founded twelve years ago!

Scott Reis, AP Calculus and Math Teacher, Nominated for OnPoint Educator Awards – Please Vote!

It’s Election Season: VOTE FOR SCOTT REIS & DE LA SALLE !

Scott Reis, De La Salle North’s AP Calculus and Math teacher and one of the original staff members here, has been nominated for an OnPoint Community Credit Union Excellence in Education award!

He has been named to the Circle of Excellence, a group of ten excellent educators, from which an Educator of the Year will be chosen. With his nomination, the selection committee recognized Mr. Reis’ passion for delivering innovative teaching methods that spark enthusiasm in today’s students. There are actually two awards Scott is eligible for: Educator of the Year and Community Choice Winner.

That’s where YOU come in! The Community Choice Winner is chosen by the public through voting. You can help recognize one of De La Salle’s hard-working, dedicated and committed teachers, while potentially raising a little money for De La Salle! The award winner will receive $1,500 cash award plus $1,500 for his/her school for resources and supplies. Vote today!
