The Counseling office at De La Salle North Catholic is committed to assisting all students and their families in meeting the demands of high school and in dealing with problems that may arise in school, at home, or in the community. Counselors work with students individually, in the classroom, and in small groups to improve academic performance, explore their abilities and interests, increase motivation, formulate realistic goals and maintain satisfactory personal and social lives. Counselors also educate students on psychosocial issues such as college and career readiness, mindfulness, cybersafety, suicide prevention, dating violence, healthy relationships, substance abuse prevention, and child sexual abuse prevention. We also help connect 9th and 10th graders to volunteer and paid summer enrichment opportunities in order to allow students to explore their interests and build leadership potential.
School Climate and Peer Helpers
The Counseling Department works to build a positive and safe environment for all DLSNC students. We coordinate a Substance Abuse Awareness and Prevention Day for sophomores, as well as annually host Taproot Theater, a professional theatrical company that performs a drama addressing cyber safety concerns.
Counselors at DLSNC also moderate the Peer Helper program. We select sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are natural counselors, and provide them with 15 hours of training on basic mentoring skills, suicide prevention, teen depression, dating violence and healthy relationships, and cultural competence. Resources for Families
The Counseling Department is available to help parents and guardians find resources that can support our students and their families. Feel free to call us to help identify low-cost medical and mental health/counseling resources. We collaborate with Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation to provide free glasses and hearing aids to qualifying students.
