One very unique aspect of a De La Salle North Catholic High School (DLSNC) education is that our students pay a significant portion of the cost to educate them through real-world work. Subsequently, a DLSNC education extends beyond classroom walls deep into the local community. Students work one day per week every week at one of over 80 companies in the greater Portland area that span a wide-range of industry: medicine, law, education, finance, accounting, marketing, insurance, the performing arts, media, software, engineering, and a variety of others.
Our Corporate Work Partners embrace our students and have high expectations as temporary employees of their organizations. Work-site supervisors are accessible and approachable creating a student learning experience focused on appropriate challenge and support. Students learn the value of soft skills and how to use these skills in the work environment. For example, students increase their problem-solving and communication ability significantly through exposure to professional corporations.
As a result of their strong work-ethic, students develop a sense of belonging and confidence that will remain with them as they transition into the next level of college education and into their adult work life. This preparation requires students to be vigilant and corporate sponsors in the Portland business community to generously invest in the future visionaries and entrepreneurs in the Pacific Northwest and the United States.
We are very proud of our students and Corporate Partners. It is exciting to know that learning and appreciation goes both ways. Students enhance diversity awareness in the workplace. Corporate Partners provide students with exposure, experience and skills that will prepare them as the future American workforce.
